Concerts and Recitals

Not only is Stephanie a teacher of her vocal technique, she performs recitals and concerts across the nation demonstrating the benefits of a flexible vocal style. A recital program can be customized specifically for you: the concert length can be tailored to suit your needs, and you may combine one half from one program and the other half from another. (“Spectrum” excepted from this combination.)

Below are the concert offerings in Stephanie’s current repertoire. Contact her at (212) 724-4131 for specific information, including song lists, fees, and booking information.

Gershwin Galore!I Got Rhythm” . . . “Swanee” . . . “Summertime” . . . What do these songs have in common? They were written by a genius named George Gershwin, and they are as quintessentially American as apple pie and baseball. Who doesn’t know and love “Embraceable You,” “Fascinatin’ Rhythm,” “S’Wonderful?” And now you can hum them, tap your feet to them and hear them all in GERSHWIN GALORE! Sung by Stephanie Samaras, Stephanie and Georgethese songs and many other Gershwin favorites add up to a revue that is imaginatively staged and amazingly varied. You'll laugh, feel your heartstrings tugged, want to dance, and yes - to sing!

Stephanie is that rare singer for whom Gershwin might well have written. She possesses all the requisite qualities - taste, sophistication, more than just “a touch” of class plus a sparkle of pizzazz and an infectious sense of life that pervade her singing and thoroughly delight audiences and critics. Her ability to adapt her voice to different styles, linked with a great respect and love for the music of George Gershwin, is what qualifies Stephanie as an ideal interpreter of “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Love Walked In,” “I’ll Build a Stairway to Paradise,” and the other unforgettable songs that comprise GERSHWIN GALORE!

Spectrum: The Colors of Vocal Style If all of Song were a rainbow, Stephanie would highlight many colors in this recital - from Handel to Massenet, from Lehar to Gershwin and Berlin. Especially helpful in demonstrating to students the wide range of stylistic possibilities in the trained voice, this concert covers the gamut from early Baroque repertoire to the musical theatre songwriter Stephen Sondheim. This concert is very useful in conjunction with a masterclass, demonstrating the different stylistic choices possible with a flexible vocal technique.

A Little Light Music Musical Theater is one of America’s gifts to the music of the world. Enjoy classics from Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and Jerome Kern with some treats from the vaudeville and parlor music traditions, sung by Stephanie Samaras (mezzo-soprano) and Ryan Allen (bass) in A Little Light Music! Stephanie and Ryan are a husband and wife team whose singing has delighted audiences from coast to coast. Favorite operetta and musical comedy melodies vibrate anew with their rich voices, and smiles are the typical response as their warm personalities bring to life “Old Man River,” “My Castle on the Nile,” “I Love A Piano,” “A Good Cigar Is a Smoke,” and many more.

Ryan Allen made his debut with the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1993 and has sung there three additional seasons. Ryan has also performed with the opera companies of Portland, San Diego, Atlanta, Edmonton, Cleveland, Manitoba and Austin, among others. He tours extensively with the New York Light Opera Quartet, and has performed on the concert stage internationally in Russia, Israel, Poland, Sweden and Finland. In the spring of 2000 he sang with the Anchorage Opera, with Alaska being the 50th state of the US in which he has performed!
